Future & conditional
Both tenses are built on the same stem — the infinitive — with different endings: future takes avoir-like endings, conditional takes imparfait endings. Learn one stem, get two tenses.
Futur proche: the everyday future
aller + infinitive, exactly like English "going to" — and it dominates conversation:
Je vais partir demain. · On va voir. · Tu vas adorer !
Futur simple: infinitive + endings

-re verbs drop the final e: vendre → je vendrai.

Ear training: je parlerai (future) /paʁləʁe/ vs je parlerais (conditional) /paʁləʁɛ/ — many speakers merge them; context decides.
The conditional IS French politeness

Je voudrais… is the single most useful phrase in a French shop.
Si-clauses: the fixed recipes

Golden rule: never future or conditional directly after si (in the "if" sense). English makes the same choice: "if I had", not "if I would have".
Two traps from English
- After quand referring to the future, French uses the future where English uses present: Quand je serai grand… ("when I am grown up").
- English "would" meaning past habit is the imparfait, not the conditional: "he would always smile" = il souriait toujours.
